Reader Ship Literacy Program - A Big Book Reading Course

Introduction: that is a reading program that helps primary school children to start reading and develop effective reading strategies. Reading approaches evolve with children's progress from choral reading approach, paired reading to individual reading.

The program involves:

  1. Big Book Reading - readers are carefully selected to provide wider and level-appropriate reading exposure to the children.
  2. Handout Worksheet - to foster language-based knowledge and important concepts in reading like story sequences and text-illustration relation.
  3. Extended Activities - craft, drawing and task-based activities to ensure understanding of the book and to develop critical and creative thinking.
  4. Reading Sharing Time - to initiate children's spoken English abilities and to help them form and express their own opinions.
Standards-based activities to improve skills in:

  1. Phonics/ decoding
  2. Grammar & Usage
  3. Vocabulary development
  4. Writing
  5. Comprehension

Most books are under the *lexile system for you to know about the reading levels of each child and the progress on reading and comprehension. Children are under observation of the teachers and reading behaviour record will be given by the end of the course.
