Little Bookworm - A Big Book Reading Course
Introduction: that is a reading program that helps emergent readers to start reading and develops early reading
strategies. Reading approaches evolve with children¡¦s progress from choral reading approach, paired reading to
individual reading.
The program involves:
- Big Book Reading - readers are carefully selected to provide wider and level-appropriate reading exposure to the children.
- Handout Worksheet - to foster language-based knowledge and important concepts in reading like story
sequences and text-illustration relation.
- Extended Activities - craft, drawing and task-based activities to ensure understanding of the book and to
develop critical and creative thinking.
- Reading Sharing Time - to initiate children's spoken English abilities and to help them form and express their own opinions.
This is a progressive course that runs throughout the year. The initial phase includes the following titles that would be delivered in 6 one-hour sessions:
- 'Count to Ten' - Concept book on numbers
- 'Friends of All Colors' - Repetitive pattern book on colors
- 'My Big Buddy' - Repetitive pattern book on father-son relationship
- 'Excuse Me, Sir' - Cumulative pattern and a phonics reader
- 'May I Go Out?' - Question & Answer reader
- 'Who Can Be a Friend?' - Expository non-fiction book
Target Group: Kindergarten children aged from 3-5.
